Please note: Pre-Order this resource for delivery in late April / early May. You’ll receive a confirmation email after purchase.

This Unit of Work is designed to run alongside, not replace, regular PE lessons. Its focus is on character and skill development, not technical coaching alone.

It also links directly to careers education, PSHE and the Gatsby Benchmarks by helping students understand how the skills they develop in sport transfer to life and future work.

Teacher Overview
Outlines the 9-week athletics scheme of work using a Whole–Part–Whole lesson structure. Each week includes an event focus (e.g. sprinting, jumping, throwing) and a linked employability skill (e.g. teamwork, communication, time management). Provides a clear framework for role rotation, assessment, reflection and celebration.

Team Worksheets
Give students ownership of their learning through specific roles including coach, manager, equipment manager, health and safety manager and journalist. The worksheets support team organisation, planning, reflection and peer feedback, reinforcing the employability focus.

Weekly Lesson Presentation
Provides a structured, editable lesson framework for each week of the season. Includes event instructions, employability skill prompts, reflection slides and league tables to track progress. Supports consistent delivery across groups and allows space for personalisation and adapted practice.

This resource is designed to make athletics more inclusive, purposeful and skills-focused, while supporting broader school priorities such as character education, employability skills development and careers learning.
